- Exodus 25:31-36
'“You are to make a menorah of pure gold, by hammered work. Its base, stem, cups, bulbs and flowers are to be one piece. There are to be six branches coming out of the sides, three branches of the menorah out of one side, and three branches out of the other. There are to be three cups shaped like almond blossoms in one branch, each with a bulb and flower, then three cups made like almond blossoms in the next branch, each with a bulb and flower, and so forth for the six branches coming out of the menorah . Within the menorah will be four cups made like almond blossoms, with bulbs and flowers. There is to be a bulb under two branches of the first piece, a bulb under two branches of the second piece, and a bulb under two branches of the third piece, for the six branches coming out of the menorah . Their bulbs and their branches are to be one piece—all of it a single hammered work of pure gold.
'
Why does Adonai command the menorah to be made to have almond blossoms and bulbs? Is there a significance to that?
The word almond in Hebrew is Strong’s H8246 - saqad, which comes from the root Strong’s H8245, also saqad, which means, ‘to wake, watch, awake, be alert.’
What do we need in order to be awake, watch and be alert?
Eyes! And what do almonds look like? Eyes!
Proverbs 20:27
The spirit of a man is the lamp of the LORD, searching all the inner depths of his heart.
The menorah is essential for giving light in the Tabernacle as well as teaching us about our relationship with Adonai on our journey through this world. Each branch serves a purpose, instructing us on the 7 spirits that make up the Holy Spirit, which should be dwelling in us. Eyes in scripture represent the Holy Spirit and we can see evidence of that in Revelation 5:6.
Revelation 5:6
And I saw between the throne (with the four living creatures) and the elders a Lamb standing, as if slain, having seven horns and seven eyes, which are the seven spirits of God, sent out into all the earth.
The word for eye in Hebrew is Strong’s H5869 - ayin, which can also be translated to spring, or fountain, and has also been translated as a well of water.
Water is nature’s mirror. It reflects the beautiful scenery around and above it, like the moon reflects the light from the sun. Since we are created in His image, we should be a living and breathing reflection of the menorah, or the Holy Spirit. People should be seeing His light through our eyes, the window to our soul.
Why would Adonai have the menorah look like an almond tree?
The Hebrew word for tree is Strong’s H6086 - etz, and it is the root for counsel, etzah. Trees can be symbols for counsel. The blossoming branches show us the Holy Spirit is the source of the good Fruits of the Spirit when our menorah is properly tended to, day and night (Leviticus 24:1-4). When we are submissive to the Holy One, allowing Him to prune what is dead and diseased, and are operating in His Spirit, we can also bear His fruit!
If we are proclaiming to be children of the Most High, our fruit should be a reflection of counsel with the Holy One. If we are not careful and do not tend to our menorah, our oil can run low and our lamp will eventually go out. People will no longer be able to separate His light in us from the darkness in the nations.
Spending time in His Word and allowing it to be a tool for us to self reflect each day is important for our growth, maturity, and ability to bear fruit.
Sister, if you are struggling to find time to spend with him, I encourage you to find a good friend who will hold you accountable and spend time in the Word with you. Even if it’s only 20 minutes, those 20 minutes are better than nothing. If you’re not struggling with finding time but you know someone who is, please reach out and see if there is any way you can help your sisters!
Let’s support each other and help build His Kingdom together!
Be pressed and be blessed!

- Galatians 5:22-23
'But the fruit of the Ruach is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control—against such things there is no law. '
- Luke 11:34
'Your eye is the lamp of your body. When your eye is healthy, your whole body is full of light. But when it is sick, your body is full of darkness. '
- Matthew 7:15-20
'“Watch out for false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing but inwardly are ravenous wolves. You will recognize them by their fruit. Grapes aren’t gathered from thorn bushes or figs from thistles, are they? Even so, every good tree produces good fruit, but the rotten tree produces bad fruit. A good tree cannot produce bad fruit, nor can a rotten tree produce good fruit. Every tree that does not produce good fruit is chopped down and thrown into the fire. So then, you will recognize them by their fruit. '
- Leviticus 24:1-4
'Then Adonai spoke to Moses saying: “Order Bnei-Yisrael to bring to you pure olive oil, beaten for the light, to keep a lamp burning continually. Outside of the curtain of the Testimony, in the Tent of Meeting, Aaron is to keep it in order from evening to morning before Adonai continually. It is to be a statute forever throughout your generations. He is to keep the lamps in order on the pure gold menorah before Adonai continually. '
